Today we begin our series on prayer as we prepare for our season of prayer that starts with our ecumenical prayer week. Today we are looking at the first core value which is ‘together’ i.e. the importance of physically being in the same place to pray as the first disciples were on the day of Pentecost. This is a challenge for the Western Church where Christian ‘diversity’ is not only possible but also seen as desirable for our mission and witness within a multi-cultural setting. However, one must pose two questions; can our unity in Christ in the midst of such diversity ever truly be maintained without us praying together? Will all our mission activities remain largely ineffectual and powerless without us praying with, and for, each other?
